I find that since I cannot do Art, that I find my niche in editing. I have not the hand-eye coordination to make a pencil transfer my thoughts to paper. But I have things running around my head, ideas described in hours long niceties, relived through vivid dreams and visions, devoid of a true picture but all the more clear for the refinement. I haven't the experience in communicating to write flowing dialogue. But I can describe something in such exquisite detail that I outdo Verne and his fish. I cannot remember the dulcet tones and soothing melodies that I coax from my spirit through a saxophone long enough to memorise them or write them down, but I can spot a mistake in a piece from one instrument in a concert.
I cannot get Art out of me onto paper or screen or song, but I sure damn well know what to look for and can tell someone how to fix it!
If you are a creator/artist and have an editor/proof-reader/beta reader - appreciate them. It's a frustrating job to soothe an artist's ego and direct them carefully to fix things because you don't have the physical capabilities to make fine art and correct the piece, instead adjudicating the process, spilling sesquipedalian torrents 'till the point is clear. Find the right words to convey the right mood to the artist, to motivate them, to make a work more *theirs* while fixing it and not influencing the work overmuch.
(I'm taking requests till mid-August. I specialise in editing erotica except for pieces in which the focus is non-consensual. If you think I haven't seen it - I probably have. If I have not, I'll find other pieces to use as references.)
